Privacy Policy

What we collect

We collect information in three ways:

• When you apply to adopt or foster. Our application asks for your name, contact details, home address, household and housing details, veterinary references, and similar information. We ask because placing a cat responsibly means understanding the home it is going to.
• When you contact us. Our contact form collects your name, email address, the topic you choose, and your message.
• Automatically, as you browse. Basic, anonymous analytics about pages viewed and links clicked. See Analytics below.

We do not ask for, receive, or store payment card details. Donations are handled entirely by PayPal, described below.

How we use it

We use application and contact information only to run the rescue: to review your application, to talk with you about a cat, to arrange meetings and adoptions, and to follow up afterwards. We may keep your application on file so that we can reach out if a cat who suits your home comes into our care later.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with other organizations for their own purposes. We do not use it for third-party advertising.

From time to time we may email you about the rescue itself: news about our cats, an update on an animal you adopted or supported, or an occasional appeal for donations. Every such message includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can always simply reply and ask us to stop. We will honor that.

How long we keep it

We keep adoption and foster applications, and contact messages, indefinitely. Rescues often re-contact past applicants when a well-matched cat arrives, and our adoption records are part of each cat's history.

You can ask us to delete your information at any time. Email info@catsforlifehouston.org and tell us what you would like removed, and we will take care of it.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use the site, for example which cats are viewed most, and whether people reach our application form. This tells us how the site is performing as a whole. It does not tell us who you are, and we do not combine it with your application or contact information.

If you prefer not to be counted, most ad blockers and privacy-focused browsers block Google Analytics automatically, and the site works exactly the same either way.

Services we rely on

Like most small organizations, we use a handful of outside services to run the site. Each one only receives what it needs to do its job:

• PayPal processes donations and sponsorships. When you donate you are on PayPal's own site, and your payment details go to PayPal, never to us. We receive only the record of the gift.
• RescueGroups.org holds our animal records and supplies the adoptable cats shown on this site. It also sends our listings to Petfinder, Adopt-a-Pet, and similar sites.
• Google Workspace provides our email, so applications and messages arrive in our inbox.
• Cloudflare hosts this website and stores form submissions securely.

These services have their own privacy policies governing the information they handle.

Children

This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Adoption and foster applications should be submitted by an adult.

Security

Applications and messages are transmitted over an encrypted connection and stored in access-controlled systems that only our volunteers can reach. No system is perfect, but we take reasonable care with what you share, and we keep the number of people who can see it small.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and change the date above.
